Residents of Orthodox Volgograd will celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord and Savior Alma tomorrow.
Tomorrow, August 19, Orthodox believers in the Volgograd region will celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord – this is the great twelfth holiday in memory of the miracle that happened on Mount Tabor. According to the folk calendar, Alma the Savior is celebrated.
The Transfiguration of God is always celebrated on August 19. The miracle of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ is described in the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and Mark. It was on Mount Tabor that Christ revealed his divine nature to his disciples.
In the 4th century, Orthodox Christians began to celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord: then a temple was created on Mount Tabor. An all-night vigil is held before the feast, after which the priests wear white robes, a symbol of light. Religious processions and festive ceremonies are held.
Apples have nothing to do with the Transfiguration of God. But during the festival, the collection of these fruits was usually fast and the devotees took them to the temples in large quantities for blessing.
Numerous traditions are associated with this holiday. Thus, people believed that even by eating a piece of a blessed apple, one could greatly improve one’s destiny.
Today there are strict bans on arguments, swearing, arguments, arguments and rude words. Hurting people and animals is forbidden, even killing flies is forbidden. All these can result in illness and anxiety.
